协会主要工作是：以新闻人才培养和新闻业务建设为工作重点和维权服务热点，每年都开展新闻队伍建设经验交流、新闻业务研讨等活动；组织年度广东新闻奖的评选，开展文化体育活动、联谊活动等。与广东省新闻学会联合主办《岭南新闻探索》，双月刊。
