宋开宝七年(974)，北汉乘北宋出兵南唐、北方空虚之机，派代州(今代县)刺史蔚进率兵进攻北宋的晋州(今临汾市)。晋州知州武守琦领兵迎击，与蔚进相遇于洪洞，打败北汉兵5000余人。
