旧名云峰，在湖州市城南5公里，面积约8平方公里，最高峰海拔210．7米。系浙江天目山余脉 的组成部分，素为城南风景旅游区。明弘治《湖州府志》载：其山“峰峦秀郁，水石森爽，殊为吴兴佳绝，古今游览者皆萃焉。”万历《湖州府志》把“道场晓霁”列为“吴兴八景”之首。万寿禅寺自唐中和(881---884)起，为江南著名佛教圣地。
